Barcamp Mumbai 3 - Recap
Barcamp Mumbai 3, an unconference organized at S.J. School of Management( SJSOM), IIT Powai saw huge gathering of people coming in from various corners of
Here’s my take on the event:
Well, I reached at the venue around 10:30 am and the event had already started. The registration was a breeze, and found way for some free goodies too. (the barcamp style tshirt, I’m networking stickers, a business magazine, and lots more..)
I moved up straight to the open space area where every speaker was giving a brief about his talk and purpose to be at barcamp3. In order to give a talk you needed to register by pasting a slip and booking your slot, so I did my effort too, and then gave an introduction in front of everyone.
As soon as my intro got over, I was straight out to network with people. I got introduced to people from bigadda who shared their plans for tying up with google for opensocial API which meant they were keen on opening up their platform too. It was really great talking to them and hearing about their plans.
In the mean time the intro sessions were over and the planners categorized talks. I moved straight to the Blogcamp track. The very first session was by renowned indian blogger Rashmi Bansal who talks mainly about youth culture on her blog youthcurry, her talk was all about her experiences with blogging and how she enjoyed doing her work even while managing other aspects of life and also shared thoughts on how she connects with her blog visitors and how strong it can get at times.
Next up was Ankesh Kothari who runs BlogClout. His session was cool since he gave insights on how you could run a successful blog and how multiple authors really help getting a different insight. Then there was another session about PodCasting by Indicast guys who talked about how they podcasted and their story, they also shared tips on how one could start podcasting. He also shared thoughts on how internet bandwidth is really the problem for slow growth.
Well, by this time of the day everyone was really hungry and it was time for a mega lunch. I headed straight off to the open space again where lunch was arranged. I grabbed a plate, found a place to sit and started networking with neighbors while at it.
Post lunch I moved straight to the techie talks where I met Vishal Sampat and few other guys who run tagg.in, a mass messaging service just like twitter but in a different way users can communicate using groups and stuff.
Then I moved straight to a talk Facebook API by Saurabh Bhutyani but apparently he did not show up on time and the public thought that I should come and speak instead of him, a lot of people knew me in that room also I have been following f8 API from its very launch so I gave a small talk till saurabh showed up and then he continued the PPT and other tech details on making a facebook application.
Then I went straight to the startup/product launch room where I heard talk call iAccelerator and then next up was my talk about the launch of my startup “Social Web Factory”. I gave a small PPT and shared by views about the social web and by this time of the day it was 5:30, almost end of barcamp. So, I quickly wrapped up the session and we all gathered into the openspace for the closing ceremony.
All in all it was a great event, special thanks to the volunteers and organizers who made such a big event possible. Hope we have many more barcamps in the future…
